The Miller Project
Recovery Saves Lives
Most people in our jail don’t start out as criminals. They start out struggling with addiction, mental health, and a lack of support. Right now, the system in place processes them, but it doesn’t fix the underlying problem: people get out of jail, and too often, they come right back. That revolving door is costing lives, hurting families, and making our community less safe.
The Miller Project is about opening a different door for inmates. Inside the jail, this will not be easy. This is for people who are willing to do the hard work to change their lives. It will require accountability, discipline, and commitment. But for those who choose that path, they will have access to recovery programs, mental health support, and structured opportunities that will give them a sense of purpose and help to prepare them for life on the outside.
Here’s the reality: if someone in jail works on themselves and walks back out to the same environment they came from with no support, no guidance, and nobody in their corner, we can’t expect a different outcome. That’s why this project doesn’t stop at the doors of the jail, and it’s not something a sheriff can do alone. The Miller Project is built on volunteers and partnerships. We are calling on churches, nonprofits, mentors, sponsors, and mental health professionals across Madison County to step up and be a part of the solution.
When people have that kind of support, they don’t go back to jail. That means fewer repeat offenders, fewer victims of crime, and safer neighborhoods for all of us. This is how we move Madison County forward: we won’t just react to crime, but prevent it. The Miller Project is about accountability, opportunity, and a community coming together to change lives.
